The Koh Tao Review Blog
This blog is all about a small - very small - island in the Gulf of Siam. Situated about 70 km east of the City Chumphon, the capital of the first southern province, Koh Tao had many names over the years. In history books it can be found as inhabited market place from around 1600 under the name Pulo Bardia. The modern name Koh Tao means Turtle Island in Thai language. The English version of Wikkipedia still refuses to put an h into the Koh and so you have to search for Ko Tao. Google returns 2′330′000 results on the keyword phrase “Koh Tao”, an overwhelming amount of websites for anybody who just wants to know what’s going on, where to stay, what to do and where to eat on Koh Tao.
There are so many things you can do on Koh Tao besides Scuba Diving or becoming a Certified Diver or even a Diving Instructor. There are so many places to go and so many spots to visit on this small island that you better pack in an extra week of time for your vacation on Turtle Island. The second biggest industry on Ko Tao is extending tickets! It’s a bit like Hotel California … “you can check out anytime you want but you can never leave…” Believe me; it’s the Koh Tao Fever and it seem s to be contagious!

Adventure Sailing
How about doing something completely different on Koh Tao for once? Everybody knows Koh Tao is good for scuba diving and scuba diving courses, the Mekka for scuba divers! But there is more to it than that. Turtle Island offers many other activities, where you can participate and sweeten up your well earned holidays.
Sailing around Koh Tao
One of those activities, i would like to introduce to you today is Sailing! Yep, you can book a full Sailing Charter for a day or for several days or even for a week or two on Koh Tao. You can tell the captain where you would like to go and he will set course right away. You can than stop wherever you like and go swimming or snorkeling.

Sounds cool? Yeah, but wait, there is more! How about you obtain some new skills by taking sailing lessons while you are on it? What about learning not only how to steer a sailing boat but how to navigate it, set sails and set your own course? Doesn’t that sound exciting?

For me? Both please! ~ Impress your girlfriend or invite your wife ~ whatever it might be; Sailing into the sunset with a glass of champagne in your hand and your best friend right next to you… A captain, taking care of everything and enjoying the life of a millionaire; even if it isn’t for ever it is worth enjoying every second!
The Sailing Fleet of Island Cruises Koh Tao
Island Cruises Koh Tao has two sailing Yachts for Charter. The larger one, the Freedom Fargo Sailing Yacht is mostly doing Safaris and Live aboard activities for Island Cruises. The boat takes up to 4 people for over night charters and is well equipped. She is constantly frequenting the waters of the Southern Gulf of Thailand, sailing her guests to the waters of the yet relatively unexplored region of the Ang Thong National Marine Park.
The smaller Sailing Yacht SY Yun Khan is a Boden Temptress 34′ design with a sloop rig. After her adventurous crossing of the seas from Australia she is now located on Koh Tao and catering for all day sailing activities for Island Cruises.

The Community Website
One of the first sites you want to check for news and information about Koh Tao is the Koh Tao Community Website. This website was created in November 2006 for the purpose of fund raising for the children of Ko Tao. Meanwhile it has become a pool of information for people who live on Koh Tao as well as for visitors who are planing their stay on Turtle Island. The site offers up to date Yellow Pages with all relevant phone and fax numbers as well as e-mail addresses from hotels an resorts or dive centers. The Koh Tao Community Site also carries a classified section for anything that is for buy or sale. Motorbikes, real estate or second scuba diving equipment.
Koh Tao Info Center
You can further find all kinds of information about environmental, land and marine, projects going on on the island, the children’s education and English teaching programs, the summer camp for children and how to help by volunteering on Koh Tao. In several forums is space for discussions about scuba diving, what is going on where and when and more. On the front page you can find a portal overview with the latest events and the next Thai Boxing Night and After Party in Sairee.
